Hi! I’m Katie Cunningham and I’m running for Cibolo City Council Place 4. With our recent redistricting, this district encompasses Gatewood, Stonebrook, Cibolo Valley Ranch, Buffalo Crossing, the Reserve at Buffalo Crossing, Steele Creek, Towne Creek, Venado Crossing, Val’s, Falcon Estates, Tolle Rd/Country Lane, the area east of Main Street, and everything south of 78 to IH-10 (with the exception of Red River Ranch).

I’m so excited to be running for re-election. I grew up in the area and am a 2004 Clemens graduate. I moved to Waco after high school and graduated from Baylor University with degrees in Public Relations and Speech Communication (Corporate Communication emphasis). After graduation I met my husband and then spent 3 years in Paris, TX before returning to Cibolo. We have 4 kids (20, 13, 9 and 8) and I’m grateful to be able to raise them where I grew up.

I’ve been active in the city for many years and have served on Council since 2021. Prior to being on Council I served on several city boards and committees, including CIP, Board of Adjustments, Master Plan Committee, Communication and Technology Advisory Committee, and Charter Review Commission. I also serve on committees for charity organizations and events, such as the Sweetheart Soirée Senior Citizen Prom, Cibolo BBQ Cookoff, Stonebrook HOA, and more. My kids love to come and help, so we stay busy! I also run a local Facebook page that posts volunteer opportunities in our area (Active in Cibolo/Schertz), provide car seat safety checks in the community, and am a member of the Lions Club.
I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in the last 3 years. Cibolo is a great place to live, and we have the potential to be even better. In the next 3 years, our biggest focus needs to be:
-
FUNDING: Find ways to increase sales tax revenue to take the burden off of property owners.
-
INFRASTRUCTURE: Continue to improve our infrastructure, such as roads, water, sewer, drainage, and emergency services. We also need to continue to refine the plan for annual road repair and maintenance to ensure our City-maintained roads are safe and drivable.
-
UPDATE THE UDC: We also need to complete an overhaul of our Uniform Development Code (UDC) to match our updated Comprehensive Plan, Future Land Use Map, and Future Thoroughfare Plan to provide clear, realistic rules for zoning and subdivision regulations, design guidelines, infrastructure requirements, landscaping standards, and sign regulations.
-
1103: This doesn’t need much explanation. We were able to get the project started in 2023, but additional delays outside of the City’s control have caused massive delays. We need to rebuild our relationship and work with TXDOT to strongly encourage them to expedite Phase 1 (I-35 to Steele), and work closely with TXDOT to keep Phase 2 (Steele to 78) on time.

Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback and I’ll do my best to respond. I look forward to meeting you all!
